Natural surroundings and metal do not have to stand in contrast. A good example is the new footbridge in the suburban forest in Hodonín, where press-locked Corten® gratings supplied by PERFO LINEA were used as part of the project.
The footbridge is part of a wider restoration of Hodonín’s suburban forest park, which was severely affected by the 2021 tornado. The project includes not only the restoration of vegetation, but also new walking routes, a cycle path, street furniture and an educational trail. The structure itself is entitled “Hodonín – Suburban Forest – Footbridge over the Alder Grove” and was constructed by LEVEL 02, a.s.
PERFO LINEA a.s. supplied press-locked gratings made from Corten® steel with a mesh size of 33 × 33 mm and load-bearing bars measuring 30 × 2 mm. The project was carried out during May and June 2026.
Corten® is an attractive material for projects of this kind not only because of its properties, but also because of its appearance. Its characteristic rust-brown patina allows metal elements to blend naturally into the surrounding landscape. In this case, the Corten® gratings create a contrast with the wooden sections of the walkway while visually complementing the natural character of the forest park.
Press-locked gratings consist of load-bearing and cross bars pressed together to form a regular grid. At PERFO LINEA, we manufacture them from materials including steel, stainless steel, aluminium and Corten® steel, with 33 × 33 mm among the standard mesh sizes available. Thanks to their strength and versatility, they are widely used for footbridges, landings, staircases and other walkable structures.
The result is a solution in which wood, Corten® steel and the surrounding vegetation complement each other naturally. The project demonstrates that floor gratings do not have to be purely industrial elements – they can also work effectively in landscape architecture.
